2BS GHG Calculator Update

We are pleased to announce the update of our 2BS biofuels GHG calculator. As of 1 June 2026, the v7 calculator will come into effect and will be mandatory for all GHG calculations relating to grains harvested after this date. In the context of your audits, calculations carried out using the previous version (v6.63) will no longer be accepted for these grains. This new version is available in two formats: The results produced by this tool are considered compliant by default during the audit. However, the auditor will verify the raw values entered. The calculations performed in this file will be reviewed by the auditor to ensure their compliance, particularly in the event of modifications made by the user. The

Clarification on the Status of Waste Starch Slurry under the RED Framework

As starch-derived materials gain interest as feedstocks for biofuel and biogas production, 2BSvs reminds operators of the correct classification rules under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED). Waste starch slurry cannot be considered a waste or residue if it is deliberately produced or is the main intended output of a process (for example, following the separation of waste starch slurry from refined starch). This refined starch must necessarily have a food or feed outlet for the waste starch slurry to be classified as a residue. Otherwise, it must be classified as a (co-)product. This reminder aims to ensure proper feedstock classification and prevent misreporting or non-compliance during certification. ‘waste’ means waste as defined in point (1) of Article 3 of Directive 2008/98/EC, excluding

Webinars

The 2BSvs Webinar – Digital GHG Calculator (API) is now available to watch on demand!

2BSvs, in partnership with Farmleap, has developed a new GHG calculator in the form of an API, designed to simplify and automate the assessment of the carbon footprint of your raw materials. This innovative tool allows you to automate data exchange and significantly reduce the time spent on data entry. Its goal is to provide you with clearer, more visual, and more efficient tracking of your greenhouse gas emissions. The WebinarWe hosted a webinar to introduce this calculator – and it’s now available to watch on demand: Click here to watch the webinar replay (in French)Click here to access the presentation (in French)

Updated PoS template for biogas plants

A new version (v2 dated 05/08/2025) of the POS template has been published in the Documentation section of the 2BSvs website, under the Biogas tab. Please note that this POS template provided by 2BS is not mandatory; it is an example that economic operators may freely adapt to suit their needs, provided that all required information is included. Purpose of this update: To promote harmonization with POS templates from other voluntary schemes. A new column titled “Low ILUC risk” has been added. In line with the scope of the 2BSvs scheme, which does not cover the verification of low ILUC risk, this column must be filled in with “N/A” as a mandatory entry. Furthermore, if the POS relates to inputs

New RED III technical references: update of 2BS Standards and Procedures

All the changes mentioned in this update are presented in more detail in our documentation available here. In November 2023, the European Commission published the new version of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III – Directive (EU) 2023/2413). This document introduced new technical references for the bioenergy market, directly impacting the sustainability certification process. In response to the new guidelines, 2BS worked with its Technical Committee and market experts to implement the necessary updates to its documentation. Our aim remains to offer a simple certification process that complies with current European regulations. 2BS has submitted updated documentation to the European Commission. Driven by RED III, we have proposed a revision of our 2BS Standards (2BS-STD-01 and 2BS-STD-02) and Procedures (2BS-PRO-01

The 2BSvs – Co-processing webinar is now available for replay!

2BS sustainability certification was recently recognised by the European Commission regarding its co-processing procedures. This represents an extension to the scope of 2BS certification. Thanks to the development of a specific procedure, you are now able to integrate the co-processing method into your production process via our certification process. With this extension, you can combine renewable materials with fossil ones in the same process, while complying with RED II requirements. To help you better understand this new certification, we prepared a webinar dedicated to the 2BSvs – co-processing documentation. The webinar’s presentation and replay are now available.
